Dan Wells (born March 4, 1977) is an American author of science fiction, horror, and young adult fiction, best known for his John Cleaver series, beginning with *I Am Not a Serial Killer*. He has also written the dystopian *Partials* series, the cyberpunk *Mirador* series, and co-created the *Dark One* graphic novel with Brandon Sanderson. Wells is a co-host of the popular writing podcast *Writing Excuses*. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and studied English at Brigham Young University. In addition to his novels, he has written novellas, short stories, and collaborated on anthologies. His work often blends psychological horror, science fiction, and speculative elements. Wells is also active in the tabletop role-playing game community and has written for game settings. He currently resides in Utah with his family.
